AfD meets MAGA in Portugal

Written by: Ulli Jentsch

Shortly before traveling abroad to the Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, where the AfD was given the opportunity to demonstrate its closeness to Russia, AfD politicians attended a significantly more radical conference on the other side of Europe. The second Remigration Summit took place in Portugal on May 30. The organizers of Resum26 describe themselves as an “identitarian NGO & remigration lobby”; they are led by activists such as Martin Sellner (Austria), Eva Vlaardingerbroek (Netherlands, FvD), Milan Mazurek (Slovak MEP, Republika), and Afonso Gonçalves (Portugal). According to press reports, a total of around 500 people traveled from Europe and North America to attend.

This year’s meeting received significant media attention, in part due to the presence of Greg Bovino from the U.S., who served as head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection until January 2026 and is notorious for his aggressive, SS-style appearances. Bovino used his appearance in Figueira da Foz to offer the Europeans assistance in combating “illegal foreigners,” as reported by nd. Representing the AfD were Lena Kotré (member of the Brandenburg state parliament), Kay Gottschalk (member of the Bundestag), and Sven Tritschler (member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament). A message of greeting was conveyed by Björn Höcke, the AfD faction leader in the Thuringian state parliament.

Höcke is also among the initial signatories of a European Citizens’ Initiative called the “Save Europe Act,” which was launched by the organizers at the same time. By collecting at least one million signatures, the initiative aims to compel the European Commission to address its demands, such as a complete halt to the admission of migrants and accelerated deportation (“remigration”). In addition to Höcke, the initial signatories include Viktor Orbán, Susanne Fürst (FPÖ), Santiago Abascal (VOX), and German publisher Götz Kubitschek. A list is available in the archive.
