Colombian President Petro meets Trump

After the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by US special forces, US President Trump openly threatened Colombian President Gustavo Petro, telling him to “watch his ass.” A good three months before the presidential elections in Colombia, Petro traveled to the US for a meeting with Trump.

Apart from a few photos and brief statements from Trump and Petro that they had gotten to know and appreciate each other, there are no public details about the meeting. Peter Burghardt and Jan Heidtmann assess the visit in the SZ.
