A Focus on Anderson's Trips to Canada
Written by: Ulli Jentsch
AfD lawmakers in several federal states are currently facing allegations that they have, in some cases, spent enormous sums of money from their office budgets to hire their own family members or those of fellow AfD lawmakers. For those who have lost track, the taz offers an interactive visualization on its website. Among those who have come under fire in recent weeks for such cross-appointments and other excessive personnel expenses are several individuals we have covered in our ReGA newsletter, including Markus Frohnmaier, Stefan Keuter, Damian Lohr, and Jan Wenzel Schmidt.
We have also previously reported on the activities of German MEP Christine Anderson (AfD) in Canada. Now, following an investigation, some of the MEP’s trips have come under scrutiny due to private funding from a Canadian company. According to Abgeordnetenwatch, Anderson concealed the funding from Trinity Productions for months: “It was not until February, one day after Abgeordnetenwatch and t-online inquired about the company, that Anderson submitted the report to the European Parliament.”
In addition to a trip from 2025, Trinity had paid for two more trips in 2023. Trinity had promoted the trips to Canadian far-right and “conspiracy theorist” groups on its website and organized the sale of tickets. Canadian organizations had also repeatedly reported critically on the trips, such as antihate.ca in 2023. Anderson, who comes from the former PEGIDA movement, had shown solidarity in Canada primarily with the actions of the militant “Freedom Convoy,” which, during the COVID-19 pandemic, attempted to pressure and topple the Trudeau government—which Anderson despises—through nationwide trucker protests.
According to media reports from July 2025, Anderson, who has been a member of the European Parliament since 2019, also appeared in a major investigation into the suspected embezzlement of funds from the former ID parliamentary group (see Die Zeit). The status of the investigation is unknown. In late 2025, Anderson had invited guests to a transphobic event at the European Parliament.
