Elections in Poland

Just before the CPAC conference in Hungary (see CPAC Hungary 2025: AfD's appearance), another CPAC meeting took place, the first time in Poland. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, representing the US government, intervened directly in the Polish presidential election campaign, which was still ongoing at the time. She called for the “right” candidate to be elected and described the Civic Platform candidate, Rafal Trzaskowski, as “an absolute train wreck as a leader.” Just a few days later, the far-right Karol Nawrocki won the runoff election by a razor-thin margin.

As in the runoff election for the presidency in Romania, which was won by the liberal candidate, Trump and MAGA's international fans threw their entire weight into the fight: from the US Heritage Foundation to the Heartland Institute to the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group in the European Parliament under Mateusz Morawiecki, the Orbán group Patriots for Europe (PfE) to representatives of the AfD group Europe of Sovereign Nations (ESN): Tomasz Froelich, AfD member of the European Parliament, was the first AfD member to take the CPAC stage in Poland as a participant in a panel discussion.

The Polish community in Germany was also able to vote in the presidential election: in the first round, the liberal Trzaskowski had already performed much better (40% instead of 31%) and the far-right Nawrocki worse (14.5% instead of 29.5%). The anti-Semitic MEP Braun received an astonishing 9.6% instead of 6.3%. The result was even clearer in the runoff election: in Germany, Trzaskowski received 65.34% (49.11% overall) compared to Nawrocki with 34.66% (50.89% overall).
