CDU back at Orbán-affiliated MCC

Less than two months after the brief scandal surrounding CDU politician Saskia Ludwig's participation in the 'MCC Feszt' in Hungary (we reported briefly in our newsletter #9), Hungary's appeal to the right wing of the Union appears to remain unbroken. On 24 and 25 September, the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) hosted the “Summit on the 10th Anniversary of the European Migration Crisis” in Szeged. The event was entitled “Changing the Discourse, Stopping the Flow, and Saving Europe”. According to a follow-up report in Hungarian Conservative, the conference showed that reality had proven the correctness of Hungary's migration policy.

Two Germans, Florian Hartleb (political scientist working in Vienna and Tallinn) and Manuel Ostermann (CDU, deputy chairman of the German Police Union), were invited to a panel discussion on the European 'migration crisis' and the lessons learned from the last decade. Ostermann, who has long been criticised for his statements on refugees, migration and crime, said in an interview after the conference that he did not believe in firewalls and that it was not up to him – ‘I'm not a politician’ – to decide on cooperation between the CDU and the AfD. The meeting in Szeged was also attended by Spanish VOX politician Rocío de Meer Méndez, who admitted in an interview: ‘I have hope in the Generation Remigration’.
