Far-right ESN faces ban

The Authority for European Political Parties and European Political Foundations, or APPF for short, has initiated proceedings that could lead to the banning of the Europe of Sovereign Nations (ESN) party. The allegation: The ESN violates fundamental EU values. This was reported by Politico. APPF Director Pascal Schonard reportedly outlined the authority’s concerns in a 300-page letter. According to Politico’s account, the letter contains a multitude of statements, including those by Tomasz Michał Grabarczyk, a member of the Polish Konfederacja, as well as by members of the Bulgarian Vazrazhdane (Rebirth). The decision by Germany’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution to classify the AfD as “proven to be far-right” is also cited. Neither the parties nor the ESN as a whole have commented on the allegations.

The APPF is the European regulatory authority responsible for approving, monitoring, and sanctioning the activities of political parties and foundations within the EU. In the past, other far-right parties and foundations have been removed from the register, such as the Alliance for Peace and Freedom (APF) and the Europa Terra Nostra (ETN) Foundation. The proceedings that have now come to light concern exclusively the European party, not the ESN group in the European Parliament.
