The AfD faction in the Bundestag in Berlin announced an event on September 23, 2026, featuring Otto Mahlknecht on the topic of “80 Years of the Treaty of Paris.” The treaty secured autonomy for the province of South Tyrol (Südtirol, Trentino-Alto Adige) in northern Italy, which has a German-speaking majority.
Mahlknecht is vice president of the separatist party Die Freiheitlichen in South Tyrol, a sister party of the FPÖ in Austria.
