The AfD and the Sovereignty Foundation

An article in Der Spiegel in April highlighted the AfD’s activities with the European Sovereignty Foundation. The two authors note that “the far-right” has big plans for its foundation: “It is intended to strengthen the media network aligned with them—what the AfD calls its ‘front organization’—and help the party build international networks. And all at the expense of European taxpayers. The EU Parliament has allocated 1.1 million euros for this purpose in the budget for the current year; according to SPIEGEL information, 275,000 euros have already been disbursed.”

Unfortunately, two key issues are missing: first, the questionable use of ESN funds by the AfD at the federal level, which in some cases borders on illegal cross-financing, as was most recently the case on May 1 in Saxony-Anhalt, as reported by the taz. Regrettably, the SPIEGEL article makes no mention of the AfD’s international efforts to curry favor with the MAGA movement through the ESN Foundation, not to mention the figure of Arian Aghashahi, whose appearance at CPAC we reported on in our newsletter #16.
